Yogesh Mehta, CEO of Petrochem Middle East, the largest chemical distributor in the Middle East, is all set to make a big investment in Gujarat soon. The 63-year-old Mehta’s Dubai-based company, which exports chemicals to 34 countries, is now eyeing big time investment in western India. It is beginning with Gujarat and is in the process of investing about Rs 150 crore in developing a chemical storage tank of 20,000 ton capacity in Kandla. In future, the company can also invest in other verticals like manufacturing in Gujarat.  “Gujarat has very good infrastructure, and both Gujarat and the central governments are very supportive. Therefore, we are in the process of investing in Gujarat,” Mehta told Mirror. He said, “We have a large India office and our business has grown dramatically during the Modi regime because the Indian government has international aspirations.” The Indian government is supporting the UAE a lot, he added. Also, since India is a growth market, even non-Indians are looking to invest here now.   In 1990, when Mehta was 29, his chemical distribution company in India went bankrupt after which he made the move from Mumbai to Dubai in mid-90s. He set up Petrochem in Dubai in partnership with Petrochem UK. With 33 years of hard work and perseverance, Mehta’s company is now making a $2 billion turnover per annum. Interestingly, the exuberant Mehta, who is known for his business acumen in many countries, belongs to Surendranagar. Mehta is the fourth generation follower of Swaminarayan religion. He played a significant role in the development of the BAPS Swaminarayan temple in Abu Dhabi, UAE. “Along with being a trustee of the Swaminarayan temple in Abu Dhabi, I am also its vice chairman and we are working really hard to complete the project in time (by 2024) given that it is a very large project,” said Mehta, who is also involved in several philanthropic works. Mehta was in Ahmedabad on Saturday to attend the Pravasi Gujarati Parv and was elated for being felicitated at the event where many stalwarts from different sectors had come together.
